Gregg is a jazz band leader, saxophone and clarinet player, arranger, composer and educator, and he is well known for high quality professional performances, arrangements and inspirational teaching. Although primarily considered a mainstream jazz player because of his proficiency in swing, be-bop, hard bop, Latin/Jazz and traditional jazz, Gregg also devouts much of his time to the practice and performance of classical music. He has just completed a recording of the Clarinet Sonata by Poulenc and Scaramouhe by Milhaud with pianist Nancy Whelan and he is hard at work preparing for a saxophone performance of Karel Husa's Elegie et Rondeau with pianist, Grant Llewellyn who is conductor of the North Carolina Symphony.
Gregg has many exciting jazz projects coming up: His Fiesta Latin Jazz Septet performance at the Beyu Cafe for which he is arranging many of his own compositions, he is playing the Art Pepper role in the band Quintessence as they prepare for a performance of music arranged for Art Pepper by Marty Paitch, the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble has just made a recording and also applied for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Essential Ellington Competition and Festival, the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra is giving another performance of their Tribute to the great Black Big Bands of Fletcher Henderson, Jimmie Lunceford, Benny Carter, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, and his jazz trio is performing at two new clubs, C. Grace on Glenwood Ave in downtown Raleigh and at Dream's Cafe in Sanford plus continuing their once a month show at the Flame in Sanford.
Additionally, Gregg is teaching woodwinds at Fayetteville State University, St. Augustine's College and Woods Charter School and teaching Jazz History online at central Carolina Community College.
